On Saturday night I was invited by Aini to check out a performance at Esplanade by VJC students and its alumni, conducted by a guy named Iskandar Ismail. The first half of the gig was a fucking bore with static performances from the orchestra and some other performances which I cant even remember.

The tempo of the show was upped after the intermission. First were performances by the VJC Dance people with their hiphop items and a somewhat satanic dance by a large group of female dancers who won an award at the Barcelona Grand Prix for I dont know what but its pretty impressive shit. Next was my favorite part of the gig which was a fusion of rock music and chinese orchestra instruments. They had a drummer, guitarist and basist combining sounds of rock with 3 chinese instrument performers. After that was a duet by former Singapore Idol contestant Jasmine Tye or something and VJC's principal. Out of nowhere we suddenly had a duo act of magic performance from a VJC alumni member and his sexy partner Magic Babe Ning. They did the typical satanic illusion by locking Magic Sexy Babe Ning into a box and making her disappear and reappear again. More blood to be fed to the Prince of Darkness for yet another successful illusion. Whatever happened after the magic show is not really worth mentioning. Thanks to Aini's sis for the tickets to this VJC show. This was the second time for me being in a theatre of people with ties to a JC. The first time I went to watch a dance performance by SAJC which was quite impressive as well. JC people are a bunch of enthusiastic people even when it comes to the performance arts. No wonder they are able to enter universities.

Tonight was one of the rare times when the Yehudi Stafucks Coffee got to drain some cash from me. I hope the money goes to paying the staffs instead of the staffs kicking up the profits to the fucks in the upper echelon of the company. Worst still if the money is being used to spill more Palestinian blood.

Der Baader Meinhof Komplex was the second foreign film I saw last week. Only Cinema Europa at Vivo City is showing the film. This was the second film I saw at that theatre, which is the equivalent of The Picturehouse at Cathay. The first time there I caught Tropa de Elite (Elite Squad), a quality Brazilian film that is somewhat inferior to City of God.

Anyway Meinhof Complex started off at a European nude beach where adults are chilling out and kids are playing. All of them fully nude. Child porn lovers would be turned on by this. I was quite shocked by the intro and was absorbed into the film straightaway, not because of the naked children but because of the subject matter that the film deals with. What follows for the next 2h30 mins was a fast paced and action packed look into 10 years of German history during the late 1960s when the Shah of Iran was in power to the 1970s when the deaths of the original members of the RAF took their own lives while in prison.

RAF, short form for Red Army Faction is a terrorist group whose founding members, Andreas Baader, a psychotic criminal and a fucking cool but corrupted anarchist journalist Ulrinke Meinhof . They're members are mostly a bunch of crazy fucks extreme left wings who are Marxist and Maoist. According to the movie, the Vietnam War and the Israeli Zionist pricks invation of the Palestine led to the formation of the RAF and their members became sympathizers to the victims of those 2 wars. They were also fucking pissed about the way their nation has become a Fascist police state where students are brutally beaten up and killed in cold blood by the pigs and also with the presence of American troops in Germany, the men who are collaborators of the trigger happy soldiers involved in the Vietnamese and Israeli-Arab wars.

So as terrorists they become Chemical Alis and develop their own home made bombs to blow up and sabotage public properties as a way to instill terror to the establishment. From blowing up buildings, they became bank robbers to fund their fight against the establishment. I like the part when they stole the bank money and said to the people at the bank along the lines of "Make clear that we only took the money of the capitalists".

There was also another part when the anarchist Ulrinke Meinhof and her accomplice had phoned a newspaper company about a bomb that was about to blow up at their publishing office. But the people who got the phone call did not heed the warning and was instead blown up to kingdom come when the bomb ticked off to which Ulrinke Meinhoff said, "The newspaper company accepted the risk of a bomb threat was genuine rather than losing profits by evacuating their workers. For capitalism, profit is everything." Good choice of words there. Instead of evacuating the workers to safety, the newspaper chose to continue working for profits and they got blown up instead. Work is not important.

With their newly acquire capitalist money, they were able to purchase more weapons and explosives. Somewhere along the story, the founding members of the RAF were captured by the pigs. These did not cripple the RAF into submission but instead made them even stronger with new generation of RAF soldiers joining in the fight against the establishment with an even hardcore mentality to fight in the name of the RAF's ideologies.

This was when my anarchist fantasy was played before my eyes on the big screen as the RAF members kidnapped those high ranking and "respectable" people of the social ladder and assassinated them in cold blood by pumping bullets into these useful contributors of the society because their demands for the release of the imprisoned founding members of the RAF were not met. Some of the shootings of the capitalist dogs were extremely violent but expertly shot by the director. Just wanna say I do not condone the killings of capitalist dogs.

I saw this Italian film, Gomorra on blu ray a few days back.  On the top corner of the front blu ray cover, it says "The Best Gangster Movie Since City of God". Thats a fucking bold statement. I truly enjoyed City of God on my first viewing and liked it even more after watching it again. I cant really say the same for Gomorra. Maye this is a flm that needs to be repeated viewings to be fully appreciated.

Gomorra, winner of the 2008 Cannes Film Festival Grand Prix award is directed by Matteo Garrone. The film is based on a book by Roberto Saviano which chronicles the lives of the Camorra and the people living in Napoli, the land where Diego Maradona is worshipped the same way as the Virgin Mary Santa Maria. In Sicily the criminal organization is called the Mafia or La Cosa Nostra. In Napoli they are called Camorra.

The film started by showing assasinations at a barber shop and suntan studio or whatever the place is called where people go for a fake tan. This sort of prepares the viewer for the mood of the film, an introduction to the brutal and moody world of the Camorra. Much like HBO's The Wire, there is no soundtrack to the film. The music can be heard from the characters in the film's car stereos or radios. For those who are used to the style of gangster films like The Godfather Trilogy and Goodfellas that somehow romanticizes gangsters and somewhat glorifies the violence in these films, Gomorra will be like a fucking bore fest. There is absolutely zero entertainment value to the film.

Where the film fails in entertaining, it is the acting and probably storyline which prove to be the strong points for this show. We are introduced to a number of people who are part of the Camorra or connected to them. Throughout the film, viewers are shown on the lives of the top dogs of the Camorra, right down to the Capos, the low rank soldiers, the wannabe kids who are just starting out their gangster life, associates of the Camorra, the people in the garbage and waste disposal industry, some woman who is somehow connected to the Camorra, a couple of freelance gangsters who takes pleasure in causing financial sabotage to the Camorra and lastly a tailor who's job is to make high quality dresses for the celebrities to wear at those gala premieres where they will stand in idolation with the flashing lights of the paparazzi's snapping their pics and capturing them in their beautiful glory, covered in Luxury and renowned branded dresses.

The tailor is part of the haute couture industry, the luxury fashion industry which even the mafia even manage to put its black hands on for their profitable gains on top of drug trafficking, money laundering, waste disposal business, weapons sale, prostitution and other forms of unholy vices. The Luxury brands which are usually meant for the upper class fucks will get the contract to design the celebrities dresses and they will source this job out to a highly skilled tailor and his workers to produce these dressers in large numbers. These tailors are usually uknowing or knowingly working for the Camorra or any criminal organization for that matter. Typical capitalist bastards. Pay people small amounts to make things and sell it at fucking rip off prices to support their materialistic and consumerism needs.
